Prelude to Mount Whitney
We passed Mount Whitney on our way to Mammoth. All I can say is that it looks even more intimidating in person...

2. A just valuation or estimate of merit, worth, weight, etc.; recognition of excellence.
3. Accurate perception; true estimation; as, an appreciation of the difficulties before us; an appreciation of colors.
4. A rise in value;—opposed to depreciation.
